ThinkFun, Inc sent me a toddler game to test out with my son in exchange for an honest review. As most moms know, 2 year olds can be more excited about throwing game pieces all over the house instead of focusing on the objective. So I was a little worried that this would be a game that my husband and I would spend more time cleaning up than playing.
However, I am happy to say that the Move and Groove Dance Game was a hit with Conner! This is a great game where toddlers learn through movement in this fun game that incorporates color recognition, following instructions and gross motor skills. Most family games are not geared toward the toddler years but this one was definitely designed with their skill level considered.
The game includes a large plush color cube that has six brightly colored sides. And there are 48 easy to read picture action cards that are divided into six categories:
- Classics ex. disco
- Movement ex. walk backwards
- Let’s Pretend ex. gallop like a horse
- Body Parts ex. tap your feet
- Silliness ex. sleepwalk
- Workout ex. crab walk
The Move and Groove game is very easy to play. I love how the game requires basically no set up or lengthy instruction reading. You toss the cube up in the air or roll it like a dice. Whatever color is facing up on the cube is the color card you select. Then you do the fun and silly action that is shown on the card. The really neat part is that the cards have a photo of the action as well as words so before long my son was looking at the card and imitating the move from the photo.
It is simple to play and kept my 2.5 year old entertained. He got so excited as he learned new moves to do. He also thought it was funny to see mommy and daddy doing some silly moves. There are so many toys on the market but often they are useless and boring; it is so nice to be introduced to an active, fun, learning toy that is perfect for young children.
I highly recommend the Move and Grove to anyone with a toddler. And if you have no toddler sin your life, no worries, ThinkFun has a large selection of games for all ages. You can purchase this game along with many more on the ThinkFun website or Amazon for $19.99. Now I need to check out their other fun learning toys now!
