Cruising with kids on Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas
We love the free kids program on Allure of the Seas. Royal Caribbean cruises are ideal for families with kids of all ages, as well as multigenerational family groups. The Oasis and Quantum Class ships offer the Adventure Ocean Kids Club as well as the Royal Babies and Tots program. Allure of the Sea is in the Oasis Class and offers over 28,00 square feet of space within the kids program. We have sailed on Allure of the Seas three times now, this post highlights our trip where both of our kids were involved in the two youngest programs offered. At the time of the cruise from the photos in this post, our son was three and our daughter was 9 months old. So if you are considering taking youngs children on a cruise, lease read on; I can personally say that it can be done easily on Allure of the Seas!

I highly recommend to take your child on the first day to check it out and register them in the system. They have a wonderful system that makes dropping off and picking up the kids simple and secure. I can not applaud the Adventure Ocean team enough. Royal Caribbean has done an excellent job training the staff and planning the week activities to entertain each age group appropriately. Since my son was not accustom to daycare or being in an organized learning setting at the time of this particular cruise, I was unsure how he would respond to me leaving him there for hours at a time. He was a bit apprehensive at first but by the end of the week, he was asking when he got to go to the Aquanauts room.
On the Allure of the Seas, the Adventure Ocean area of the ship has a theater room, science lab, art studio and playroom in addition to the age group rooms. This area really does make young children feel like they have their very own part of the ship all to themselves!
Royal Babies and Tots: 6 months-36 months
The Babies and Tots Nursery gives parents a drop-off option in both day and evenings. For a nominal fee you can leave your kids with trained professionals in a safe space with age-appropriate toys. And yes they have cribs, so they will put the babies down for naps too!
Also during the cruise week, the program schedules 45-minute interactive playground sessions hosted by the youth staff with a parent or caregiver accompanying each kid. We had a blast going to these sessions. It really allowed our daughter to have a unique cruise experience herself.
Explorers, Voyager, and Teens
There are additional age categories with activities of interest to them. Since our kids are young, we do not have any personal experience with these portions of the program yet. However, I can only imagine how fun they must be!
Aquanauts: 3-5 years old
The Aquanauts program offers a combination of structured activities and free play. From what I gathered from my son, the activities included story time, coloring, drawing, crafts, and games that were built around that days central-theme. They did a lot and my three-year-old son would leave talking about all the fun things the “teacher” did. If the kids are in the program during meal time then the staff takes them to a private area of the buffet to have their own kids buffet of nuggets, pizza, fries, fruit and dessert.
Times:
On our cruise, there were three main sessions each day at sea: 9am to noon, 2pm to 5pm, 7pm – 10pm.
On port days, the schedule was divided into two sessions per day: 9am to 5pm, 7pm – 10pm.
You can also opt into the night owls program from10pm – 2am session for an additional fee which was $7 per child per hour at the time of our sailing.
Art, Science and Theater rooms
There are other rooms in the Adventure Ocean area. These rooms are where special activities take place. We attended a few of the art room activities which allowed us the opportunity to do some hands-on activities with our son in this space, which we all enjoyed. We also took advantage of seeing two of the special theater performances during the week.
