For Spring Break this year, I had the opportunity to take the kids to the newest hotel on Hutchinson Island, located in the part of Florida known as the Treasure Coast.
Family Friendly Spa Hotel on Jensen Beach with five-star service and luxurious amenities
Wondering where to stay on Jensen Beach with the family? The Hutchinson Shores Resort & Spa is part of the Opal Collection, one of my favorite hotel chains in Florida. The first new beach resort to be built on Hutchinson Island in 20 years, Hutchinson Shores Resort & Spa opened in 2017. This beautiful hotel features two oceanfront restaurants, two swimming pools, and a signature spa. I was surprised at how family-friendly this luxurious beachfront hotel is. From the kid menu they color in the restaurant to the free cookies each night and lots of beach toys available to play with, no kid will feel un-welcomed.
Pool and Beach at Hutchinson Shores Resort
Hutchinson Shores Resort and Spa has two pools on property. One is small with a handful of lounge chairs, a cozy poolside bar, and a beachfront view. The other pool is much larger, with tons of lounge seating, a hot tub, towel service, and full-service bar with poolside dining. My kids loved spending time at the big pool, especially the frozen kid daiquiri’s.’
The beach at the resort is lovely and well taken care of. Plenty of lounge chairs available, umbrellas, and shells to have full shade if wanted. I appreciated the complimentary use of sand toys available for the kids. It also created a great way for kids to meet and play together.
Dining at Hutchinson Shores Resort & Spa
The dining options at Hutchinson Shores Resort, are all serviced from one main restaurant, Drift, but available through room service, poolside at the outdoor patio or in the dining room.
Drift offers a breakfast buffet that is stocked with just about everything your morning cravings could wish for. Since my kiddos are so young, I ordered from the children’s menu instead because I knew that they wouldn’t eat enough to justify the cost of a large, endulgent buffet. I recently became obsessed with breakfast sandwiches so I could not pass this one up, and as you can see from the photo below, it was a good choice!
We enjoyed lunch by the main pool. I ordered freshly muddled cocktails while the kids quickly sipped down their kid-friendly raspberry daiquiris. The pool menu offers a variety of items from burgers to tacos to unique pizzas. I tried the shrimp tacos while the kids scarfed up the pepperoni pizza – which was big enough to save leftovers for a late-night snack.
Dinner was fancy yet also casual. Drift serves a delicious menu featuring pasta, seafood, a massive wine and cocktail list. Kids can choose from all their favorites like nuggets, pizza, and mac & cheese from a menu they can color. My wine, hummus app and salmon dish were all superb.
Fun things to do with kids when vacationing on Hutchinson Shores:
Though a small, quiet town I was surprised to uncover some really cool things to do with the kids. The Florida Oceanographic Society Center is a beautiful and educational way to spend a day. From hand-feeding stingrays to meeting the sea turtles and walking the trails, your entire family will love this wildlife center located just a few minutes’ drive from the Hutchinson Shores Resort and Spa.

If you need a rainy day activity or just a way to engage the kids indoors then you will want to take the short drive to the Children’s Museum of the Treasure Coast. Here they can spend hours using their imagination aboard the large pirate ship, shooting cannons and cooking soup for the crew or take on the roles of many community jobs by ringing up groceries, working on the car in the shop, delivering mail and so on.
