Fort Lauderdale may not be the first place families think of when planning a Florida beach vacation. This part of Florida, like many other Florida cities, was once best known for some wild spring break seasons. But Fort Lauderdale beach has matured over the years and the Lago Mar Beach Resort & Club offers a quiet piece of the beach is great for families wanting to escape the crowds while still enjoying the beautiful beach and location to great dining.
A charming kid-friendly historic resort located on the secluded end of Fort Lauderdale Beach
Lago MarBeach Resort is a fantastic beachfront hotel with an interesting family history. I personally enjoy staying at historic hotels and this one has a special story. This hotel has been owned by the same family for over 50 years. The Banks family relocated to Fort Lauderdale in 1959 to purchase this property and create a family friendly atmosphere that it maintains today.
From the bellmen to the front desk staff, to the food and beverage staff, service was on par with what one expects from a Four Diamond Resort.
The rooms are spacious, the beds are comfortable and the entire property makes you feel at home while being surrounded by beach life. The 1 bedroom suite is huge; from an oversized balcony to the king bed and pull out sofa, double vanity, walk-in shower, garden tub and separate vanity room with a closet. The room also has a desk, kitchenette, and table for four. Perfect size for an extended stay or larger family.
Family-friendly activities
The Lago Mar is so loaded with family amenities. The obvious is the 500-foot private beach, with soft white sand., tons of lounge chairs, and even a basketball court on the sand! There is a 9 hole miniature golf course, life-size chess set, a ping pong table and tennis courts.
There is a lagoon pool perfect for families, and you have no need for worry about finding a seat, there are plenty of lounge chairs surrounding the pool with towels and a water station too. And between the pools and the beach are a couple of hammocks for further relaxation.
There is a playground on the sand before you get to the beach. In the perfect spot for parents to lounge while kids play. Or better yet, have lunch at the pool bar and let the kids play while you wait for the food to come out!
Dining at Lago Mar Beach Resort
As a former YELP Community Ambassador, I can be a bit of a foodie. So I am happy to say that I was pleased with the food at Lago Mar, especially the room service! There are 6 onsite dining options in addition to a full room service menu.
Grab some champagne and orange juice from the Palm Garden Dining Room to catch the sunrise before you enjoy their breakfast buffet. Or if you are looking for a lighter breakfast the Soda Shop has items like oatmeal topped with fresh berries, egg sandwiches, or French toast. For lunch, you can head back to the soda shop for a quick burger, wraps, panini, or salad. If you are out by the pool or beach, go for the fish tacos and chicken quesadillas. And don’t forget room service. It is always a fun part of a hotel stay, so it is disappointing if the food is not good. I was thrilled when my food came —The massive cheese place (I am obsessed with cheese plates) wowed me from the start but the club sandwich was so delicious it left me wanting another!
