Kale chips are a healthy snack!

Healthy snack that is simple to make and cost saving from those small packages in the health stores.

Do you like kale? If you have never tried it you should. Kale is low in calorie, high in fiber and has zero fat. One cup of kale has only 36 calories, 5 grams of fiber and 0 grams of fat. With the high fiber content, it is great for aiding in digestion. It’s also filled with so many nutrients, vitamins, folate and magnesium. I must admit it was a food that I avoided for years. No reason other than I assumed I would not like it. I now love kale in all forms. Kale sales, kale smoothies and kale chips! 

I am obsessed with Kale chips from Fresh Market. The problem with this yummy snack food is the price. I can eat the entire package before I get home (I only live 8 minutes from the store!).  So when I saw Costco sold this huge bag of fresh kale, I thought wow for $4 I could make tons of kale chips.  So I came home and baked a large batch for a fraction of the price I have been spending on half the amount. So grab a bag of fresh kale and bake your own flavor of crunchy kale chips. Simple, healthy snack at a low price.

Crunchy Kale Chips

INGREDIENTS:

  • Fresh Kale (large amount-ti shrinks!)
  • Olive Oil
  • Seasonings of choice- I like to use garlic, red peppers and Parmesan

 

THE HOW TO:

  • Preheat oven to a low 300 degrees
  • Use just enough olive oil to lightly cover the kale
  • Mix in your seasoning with your hands
  • Spread the kale out evenly on a lined baking sheet
  • Bake for about 20 minutes, until crispy
